The Town Book of Coleraine
Description
In 1816 the landlord of Coleraine, The Honourable the Irish Society, commissioned a manuscript book detailing the individual properties inside the boundaries of the old walled town and associated agricultural holdings. The outstanding feature of this book was the beautiful coloured illustrations of the houses lining the principal streets.
The author has rephotographed the original material, indexed the entries and set them in their historical context by reference to publicly available records and the current appearance of the town centre.
This beautifully illustrated and presented book includes an immense amount of genealogical material extracted from various repositories, including the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland and the London Metropolitan Archives. In addition to the material in the Town Book itself, this volume lists other information including names of tenants in 1738, rent roll of 1777, and names of tenants on John Church’s property in Coleraine in 1805.
