Product Description

Robert Cunningham's arrival in Ireland four centuries ago occurred at a time of immense change on the island. The plantations, both official and unofficial, were transforming Ulster as thousands of settlers arrived in the province to begin a new life. A majority of them were from Scotland and the heaviest Scottish settlement in Ulster took place in north-east County Down on the estates of two enterprising and energetic Ayrshire men, Sir James Hamilton and Sir Hugh Montgomery. Cunningham was one of a number of ministers from Scotland who ministered to congregations within the bounds of these estates and played a formative role in the development of Presbyterianism in Ireland
