Product Description
'Connections between Ulster and Scotland have been going on for thousands of years. In the year 1399, John Mor MacDonnell, Lord of the Isles and Kintyre, arrived in County Antrim and married Margery Bissett, the daughter of the Lord of the Glynns. Thus began the great Ulster-Scottish dynasty of the Antrim MacDonnells, who ruled north Antrim for generations, and who live there to this day.
In 1603, Sir Randal MacDonnell was officially granted the Glynns, the Route and Rathlin Island by King James I. He was created Viscount Dunluce in 1618, and 1st Earl of Antrim in 1620. In 1636 he built Glenarm Castle which has been the family seat since 1750.'
This text-searchable PDF ebook charts the history of the family from ancient times and the Irish Clan Colla, to the mid 1800s when "The MacDonnells of Antrim" was first published.
